what are some good bass and catfish fishing tips?
June 28, 2009
I am going fishing for bass and catfish in a pond in the morning about 6 or 7. I am going to use night crawlers on the bottom and bread at the top for the catfish (4 sum reason bread always seem to work for catfish in this pond) and I am going to use top water lures like the torpedo and the popper for the bass. Any ideas or tips is really appreciated thanks.

Got something to say?

for the bass. if you are going that early in the morning try a plastic worm or lizard near the bank. i use a tequila sunrise 7" worm by Berkley you can find them at your local wal-mart catfish try to use some liver, stink bait, hot dogs, bream, and bread like you stated i don't know what it is that attracts them to bread but i have caught them on bread also if the person who owns the pond feeds the fish that may cause them to eat bread but i don't know
It looks like you have it all planned out already. So, I'm gonna say good luck, and have fun. Since your using nightcrawlers on bottom then hook the worm several times instead of threading it through for catfish. If your hoping to catch either one off of the nightcrawlers, then go ahead and thread the worm, and bounce it off the bottom every once in a while this might get a bass to strike it, or put it in front of a hungry catfish.
Tight Lines
Well, best of luck but it sounds like you have your plan! For catfish you might give hot dogs a shot, but if they are fed bread than they are used to eating bread, so they will continue to. For bass, topwater stuff is amazing to watch. I love seeing them explode on a topwater. I advise bringing some plastics along if they aren't in the mood for topwater lures.

Go to the fishing tips page on this site they have great links to info on that. I have used chicken hearts for catfish and night crawlers on a carolina rig for bass.
For the bass your gonna want to use a plastic worm texas rigged. Hits the grassy areas and pond "points" (areas that come to a point out in the pond/lake) also, spinner baits, crankbaits will work.
try bacon or hot dogs for the cats or chicken liver they might hit better on other baits cut shinners also work so long as they’re fresh
