I need some tips on Bass fishing?

August 2, 2009

I am going to a pond today and want to catch some Bass. I am going to be using night crawlers and I also have some plastic worms. What works better? and how should i set them on the hook?Should i zig zag the worm on or slide the worm all the way down the hook?

You will catch a wider variety of fish using night crawlers. With the plastic worms you will generally just catch bass. I would use just a standard Texas rig. Bullet weight w/ Plastic bait hook. If the pond is shallow I use a lighter bullet weight and wait for the lure to drift to the bottom. If I see my line to start to run before it hits the bottom I let it run for a few seconds and reel in my slack and pull up hard.

The worms I would glob them up on the hook and put them on the bottom. Or you could put one under a bobber. If you put a real worm under a bobber hook it once through the nose and let it dangle. If there are a lot of bluegill they might nibble of your worm from the bottom up.

The plastic worms you should texas rig. Put on a bullet weight then texas rig the worm

If the water is muddy use a carolina rig. These make more noise and will be easier to bass to find in muddy water. Still hook the worm like in a texas rig.

If the bass aren’t biting try a wacky rig, this can coaxe inactive fish. Use no weight when doing this. You can do it under a bobber or on a free line.

    Good Luck out there!

Bass are pretty finicky. I’d go with more than just worms. That’s half the battle to figure out what they like. Spinners, worms, rattle baits, etc.

I would bring two rods. One with a plastic worm Texas rigged with a bullet weight and the other one with just a size 6 baitholder hook and a split shot. Bait the hook with a nightcrawler. Nose hook the nightcrawler and jig it off the bottom. For the plastic worm, vary retrieves and jig it off the bottom as well.
