Bass Fishing Tips?
September 15, 2009
I love bass fishing but I can never get the big bass I want. When I went fishing at my friends cabin there was a big tree that had fallen in the water ,but it produced 1 1.5 pounder and the rest were small. And the bait I was using was a crank bait and the fish love them there please help. Tips would be helpful and so would bait suggestions.
I also lost about 3 baits to the dand tree.
I also lost at least 3 baits to the dang tree

Got something to say?

When fishing a snag or laydown I recommend that you have 3 rods rigged and at hand.
First work the snag topwater with a popper or chug bug. Often a top water will produce right away because the fish can predate to the surface from a safe hiding position.
Second throw a medium running crank bait or a spinner bait. Work the branches of the snag.
Last throw a jig or a Texas rigged plastic into the snag and let sink deep into the snag and work it back up through the branches.
Of course rig all the lures to be as weedless as possible.
You will find ‘em and catch ‘em if you thoroughly work a snag like this.
Good luck and good fishing - 73 from the Fisherman
use minnows but finding places like that are good…remember sometimes fishing is about luck to. you may never land anything but your friend can be pulling them in like crazy
you got to stay with it and stop whining
get some bass jigs try all diffrent kinds
I’ve had the best luck with dark copper worms with the black bottoms. Culprits seem to do best for me. I use 4" - 6". You don’t need a big worm to catch a big fish. The most important thing, I find, is the structure. I’ve almost never failed to pull a good sized one out of an area that had an overhanging tree branch, dead wood in the water and some water plant growth on the bank. It’s perfect habitat for bass. Now I live in Florida, and the waters I fish are specific, I fish them a lot and know them well. I have also had a lot of luck fishing in the middle of the lily pads (just hook the worm weedless). Good luck!
try a jig i like to use baby boo jigs in green pumpkin with a Berkley chigger craw as a trailer throw it in the thickest part of the tree as you can because big fish didn’t get big by being dumb they go for the thickest of cover they can and bass love to eat crawdads. also use scent just add an extra edge to your lure use garlic scent because bass hate the smell of garlic an will try just about everything to get rid of it even if it means eating it. I like to use B.A.N.G. Pure Craw scent to because it is a strong scent that resembles a bass’s favorite forage. Good luck and catch some hawgs.
Big baits equal big bass!
Also, if there are no big bass around, you probably can’t catch them. Move around.
I liked the first answer. Minnows are by far the best bass bait. For smaller bass use smaller minnows, larger bass use larger minnows, and much much larger bass in the +20 range use bluegill.
Crankbaits and trees dont mix. Try a big jig and soft plastic..and heavy line !
I fish finesse lures for bass… such as Bass Assassin or Zoom flukes. When hooked right and using no weight, they are virtually weedless and can be fished in and around structure. Several techniques produce well… but the most reliable is to cast right up to or just inside weeds or structure… let it sink while giving small sharp jerks, allowing several seconds between jerks. Let your line remain slack when not jerking… watch it for a strike… it will either jerk on it’s own… or slowly straightening or start moving to one side or another. just remember… the object of finesse fishing is to create a wounded/dieing baitfish effect with your lure.
Good luck… ~grins~ fish don’t belong in the water.
Spinnerbaits are awesome, they are fast and can cover a large area and find active bass. When I use them I also get unimpressive sized small males usually. What Ive tried to do is switch presentations either to a carolina rigged worm or jig. the slower presentation may be whats increacing size catches. The Beserk Pro team swears by jigs to increace size of fish caught at the expense of numbers. They even have thier own jigs designed in California on the local crawdad population colors.
If you want to catch a lunker bass, use a live golden shiner.
More lunker size bass have been caught on this bait then any other.
