For small bass, under 4lbs, thumb them and keep your arm stiff (maybe at a 90 degree angle like the previous answer). I just keep my arm tight and when you thumb them the knuckle of your index finger should push in there lower jaw (that is what paralizes them momentarily). Anything larger, you do not want to put their full weight just on there lip. Grab them with both hands, one on the lip and the other supporting the body. Before you handle any fish though, you should dip your hands in the water to get your hands wet. Fish have a slimy coat that protects them from diseases and when you touch a fish you remove that protective coat. Keeping your hands wet when you touch a fish increases their survival chances (assuming you catch and release). If the bass is dinner, anything goes. Good luck fishing.

It’s what is known as "Lip handling". Basically what is happenin’ by usin’ this method is paralyzing the spine of the bass. Here be a link that may help ya’ out ~ scroll down page to "Landing a fish". hill bill y has got ya’ on the right path on holdin’. May want ta’ hold on to site, it’s fairly informative when it comes ta’ Bass ;)…

Just grab him by the lower jaw with your thumb,,,,he won’t jump around,,,after you remove the lure,,,,try this,,,,cup your hand under his belly and let go of his jaw,,dont’ squeeze ,,,,he will just sit there as still as can be,,,,

Got something to say?
