Any tips for a first time bass fisherman?

Any tips on fishing bass in Detroit metro area? Times to go, types of lures, spots, etc. Going out for my first time Saturday morning and any advice would be great. Thanks.

okay. this time of the year its getting colder so all fish are going to be harder to catch. if its hot during the daytime, they are deep, but they come closer to shore in the morning and night to feed.

when you fish in the morning, cast out a sinking rapala parallel to shore or out into the open. reel in violently or ‘pause and go,’ most sinking rapala are nosy.

if you don’t use a rapala, try a R-spinnerbait. again throw it parallel to the shoreline. reel in slowly or medium speed so the spinnerbait is almost ontop but not. if you cast it out into the open, let it sink and then reel it in.

if you fish in the afternoon, use a plastic worm. 4-6inch worm. texas rig it or do carolina rig. cast it out, let it sink, reel it in inch by inch pausing 3-5 seconds.

if you are fishing at night, topwater lures works best in my opinion. try a jitterbug. cast parallel to shoreline or by fish structures (lily pads, weeds, trees, logs, etc) let it sit for couple of second, reel in slowly. if you get a strike, don’t set your hook. wait till the lure goes under.

    well, good luck!

We use all sorts of plug type lures. Spoons don’t seem to do the trick. Rappellas work well also. Know nothing about Detroit fishing. Good luck and have fun.

I live in florida and every time I went bass fishing with a Friend or alone
I had little luck (For years)
So I hired a guide, yes it is not cheap but if you get the right one and
go to learn you will do well after that.

The day before, go to a bait shop near where you’re going and ask the owner what he/she recommends. Look for old people, they know the most.
